Bob Leafe: Rock & Roll 1973 - 92
BOB LEAFE ROCK AND ROLL 1973 -1992Bob Leafe was there.
For music lovers such as my brother and I, live music is a staple of life. We have literally attended thousands of concerts since 1970. We often frequented the Capitol Theater, the Academy of Music, Meadowlands Arena, Giants Stadium and many others. It didn’t seem we could attend a show where we didn’t spy this frizzy-haired photographer shooting away somewhere up front. That guy was Bob Leafe. He really did see it all and usually had a front row seat.
In addition to all the concerts venues, Bob also worked for the pioneering and iconic FM radio station, WNEW-FM, for MTV in its beginnings and for the Aquarian Weekly. He shared a recording booth with Dizzy Gillespie, sat at a dinner table with Tony Bennett and George Benson, and shot Phil Collins (in a cap and gown) at a local college ceremony…all in the same two day weekend!
He’s ridden on a Coast Guard cutter, Richard Branson’s Virgin speedboat, shot a band on an aircraft carrier. He’s photographed a governor, NBA Hall of Famers, US senators, movie stars, Mickey Mantle, Muhammed Ali, and his favorite, of course, thousands of concerts. Oh yeah, we forgot to mention, Yoko Ono and Bob both took pictures of John Lennon’s last public performance at Madison Square Garden… with his camera!!!
