Baron Wolman was Rolling Stone magazine’s first chief photographer. Working from his home studio in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury, Wolman documented the Summer of Love and the music that made it famous. The music and musicians of the sixties, as well as Wolman’s pictures of them have stood the test of time – “classic rock” in the fullest sense of the word. During the late sixties and early seventies, Wolman photographed primarily in black & white since Rolling Stone had no color capability in the early days. For years he made his own prints in a basement darkroom. Today his prints are available in a variety of sizes and media: silver gelatin, iris (black & white and color), platinum and traditional color (Type R, Type C, and Lightjet).
